New Election to be held for Mayor-Tied Vote

A good source just advised the MA that there will be a new election for Mayor in Matawan. To all those nay-sayers, it seems that one of Buccellato's votes was not counted. Buccellato did follow the rules and went the distance to let his supporters know that all their work was not in vain. To those of you who claimed this blog cried "sour grapes," half of Matawan agrees with the MA. The Judge will set a date for a new election. It will be interesting to see if it is possible to have an election based on the issues. Truly hope so. No games, no tricks, just a plain, old, clean election. Let's not have an election by the newsmedia, but by the people of Matawan.

Research each candidate and make up your own mind as to who would do the best job for Matawan.

It is a tie. I've confirmed it with the county clerk's office.

THAT IS GREAT NEWS FOR PAUL AND ALL OF HIS SUPPORTERS. I HOPE YOUR RIGHT LETS BRING A NEW MAYOR IN STRICTLY ON THE ISSUES. BUT I HAVE A FEELING GIVE OL BUD SOME TIME AND LET HIM SPIN HIS MAGIC AND DO WHAT HE DOES BEST WITH CASH HE WILL COME UP WITH THE WINNING VOTES. HE SEEMS TO ALWAYS GET WHO HE WANTS IN SOME HOW AND GETS WHO HE WANTS ELECTED SOME HOW. BUT HOPING FOR THE BEST

Aberdeener, why are you so interested in Matawan's politics. Of course we welcome your comments. Just curious.

I believe Matawan and Aberdeen are a single community managed by two governments. 85% of our taxes go to the same place. I once called 911 and officers from Matawan arrived on the scene (even though the Aberdeen police station was only a couple blocks away). We share the school system, the train station, and the library. We shop in the same stores. Why should I care less about Matawan just because I don't have a vote?

maybe Aberdeener is meghan mullaney? isn't mullaney the one who just resigned from the borough council only to move to aberdeen?

ANONYMOUS--IF YOU'RE SAYING--sorry--If you're saying that Bud Mullaney always gets in who he wants, can we assume he wanted a Republican administration that would neglect the town and the tax base bringing the current state of ruin to the town, for the last 20 years, in office? Why would he have wanted that?

As for this election, maybe they should spare us all the signs and the rigmarole of a new election and just choose evens-or-odds for it? Or flip a coin? Or think of a number between one and ten, closest to the number Freehold Clifton is thinking of (probably the higher number) wins!

If there is to be a new election, there should be a mandatory debate. An election as close as this one--and a town as divided as this one--merits it, for sure.

two things to think about -
1) Fred Carr may begin interviewing again for another position
2) Residents may have a different perspective now that they've received their reval letters

Responses to several posts:
Bud Mullaney, in a recent quote from a local reporter, was named Matawan Democratic Chairman. Again in photos at a Democratic Party Dinner, who is really the Matawan Democratic Chairperson, Bud Mullaney or Ross Maghan? Bud Mullaney along with Mayor Aufseeser and Fred Carr, is also responsible for not revealing the contents of Main St. Study to the rest of the Council and residents. There was no accountability for why this happened? It did cost the taxpayers! Matawan doesn't need a full time Boro Administrator that loses Boro grants. A part time Administrator would be a savings in salary and benefits.

911 calls are routed through Freehold. Matawan's Police Department building is closed at 4pm. So if you are looking for Police assistance don't knock on the door of the Police Station.

A debate between Mayoral candidates would be a perfect way for Matawan to find out what their ideas are on how Matawan should progress.

The MA gives both sides a voice. As long as no profanity is used and good judgement is used in commenting.

well at least the voters can vote on some of the issues that were held back from them like the bacteria in the water, the huge tax increase they are about to get on there homes, former councilwoman mullaney jumping ship after the election and not before , and that empty c-town store , and the day laborers still waiting for a car to stop short so they can jump in and cause an accident , and those xmas lights that are so old why cant we get some new the town looks alive exciting lights lights ,are we that broke, this council has been in charge a few years now and have done nothing, nothinggg, its time to make a change my friends time to start breakin up this bunch and get matawan moving again. and T.I.M this town started goin down during the democratic controled council with the traitor shea and is being ruined by the current traitor cannon and his yes buddies

My car was broken into right in my own driveway !. I went to the police station and behold no one was there. lol. so I saw this yellow phone and I picked it up a woman comes on and says whats wrong and where are you calling from LOL. i said ill give you one guess. Goo thing i was,nt hurt where i could,nt talk lol few minutes later patrol car comes by and takes me inside. why cant we afford a dispatcher. must we depend on a operator from freehold...... more to come

Jesse -

Clearly you are making this up. For starters, who has their car broken into "in their own driveway" and then goes to the police station for help or to file a report instead of calling from their house? I am sure the police were very happy that you contaminated the crime scene of your car by driving it to the police station.

Second, if you were to pick up the yellow telephone, the "operator" (which is really a highly trained 9-1-1 dispatcher) would have answered the phone by saying "Matawan Police" not "where are you calling from."

So you clearly are trying to stir up controversy where there is none.

Sounds like you might be one of the over paid, under performing dispatchers that were laid off when the borough CORRECTLY decided to share dispatch services with the county.

first of all its all true if you have the guts to meet me somewhere ill show you the report and number two my car was drivable it was broken into with all my crap from my car and glove compartment all over the floor. and three highly trained please she was an idiot who really asked mt where are you calling from. lol and four i got a tour from the police officer who showed up of that filthy disgracefull police station that our guys have to work in total disgrace......

P.S on that anonymous i was,nt going to file a report at first but changed my mind after i heard a few cars where broken into so i figured it would be a good idea to report. and finally some services should be shared i think an in house dispatcher, someone there, someone to run to in case you need help and not a locked door with a phone, our police deserve the best and that includes a 1st class station house with state of the art equiptment, come on lets have someone watching the store, not some person from freehold

Jesse for Council! He wants to raise our taxes even more!

dont be penny wise and dollar foolish. when the car needs fixin you go find the money some how some people care more about money then safety. this is not the dog which was a total waste of money

We seem to be going off the original issue of voting on January 15, 2008.

As for the police department you are correct nobody is there after 4pm on weekdays. No one is there at all on weekends and holidays. There was a plan that was developed by the council and administration of the police department after the useless clan we called dispatchers were layed off. The new council came into power and the police department was forgotten again. Same old story "we will get them a new building the old building is a disgrace". Large amounts of money are put out for consoltation with no feedback. Residents think that something special was done when the town hired 3 new police officers. The only thing this council did was bring the man power back up to 1998 plus one more. The administration is still in the negative by one administrator. Lets not forget the personal vendetta that the Mullaneys have with the police officers due to the unapproved relationship of his daughter with an unnamed officer. (who may live in Aberdeen). If the town is not going to give the Police Department (THE first responders) what it needs to serve the community, fight crime, and keep their moral up then they should just merge them with Aberdeen Twp. or Keyport Borough. The residents should keep that Red Bank incident last week in the back of your minds. Take a good look at teh apartment complexes in town. Alot of section 8 moving into town. Matawan Police have only 2 officers patroling you town alone most of the time. Hope they can get to you when you need them.
