More on the Reorganization Meeting

So many appointments...so little time. Forget to mention that Councilman Mike Cannon was appointed Borough Council President. Wonder why he wasn't sworn in at the meeting, another goof? The meeting didn't start on time.....why would we think the Reorganization Meeting would be coordinated properly, the regular Borough Council meetings don't start on time either. Well at least they are consistent.

Mary Mullaney and Pat Coleman were recognized as Citizens of the Year for Matawan. Congratulations to you both on a job well done. Mary is the wife of Councilman "Bud" Mullaney, Mother of Meghan Mullaney(recently resigned from Borough Council) and Michael Mullaney, 2007 Chairman of the Recreation Commission. Mary and Pat are both members of the Recreation Commission and participate in Matawan Alliance events.

Congrats to two women who work everyday in a very public manner to make our Town and it's residents quality of life better.

As for the meeting logistics, that can be blamed squarely on the inept borough clerk, whose non-existent clerking skills make someone wonder what the former administration was drinking when they thought it was a good idea to give her tenure!

Get her out of here! Alzheimers has def. set in! Take a good look at finance also. Any education in there?

Truth, apparently you are a Mullaney/Aufseeser supporter. You can't blame the Clerk for everything wrong with the meetings. The Mayor is supposedly running the Council meetings.

No the mayor is not running the meetings. Menna and that Quack Carr run the meetings. The clerk is behind the scenes making whatever amounts of money messing up. Messing up to the point that this small town had to make a position to assist her. More $$$$$$$$ down the drain.

The Mayor supposedly has a real job! The clerk's job is to organize the meeting! You don't have to support any of the various Mullaneys to know that!

The clerk is just one more example (perhaps the most obvious one) of waste in government spending.

Pat Menna, Esq. is the Borough Attorney and as such he is paid to protect the Borough and the incompetents voted into office. He is just doing his job. If he didn't Matawan could have been sued for the actions of some of the Council Members.

They gave awards to the same people who as head of recreation, could not find time to do the Santa runs, stating it made no money for the town. Thank goodness we have the volunteers like the Fire and First Aid. Without them, the children would be so disappointed

The Deputy Boro Clerk position has been there for over 30 years. not a nedw position.

Mayor and Carr have control over setting up meetings, not clerk.

Why hasn't anyone brought up the fact that the Police Dept. has a Patrolman applying for grants. That is how they are getting new equipment, not thanks to the Mayor or Mr. Carr. The Mayor would like you to think she got the up to date equipment for the PD., Sorry, they have a Patrolman doing the Administrator's job and getting many, many grants.

I dont know about lots and lots. When you say updated equipment what are you talking about. Still looks like the same old stuff to me. One grant for equipment, the other is to pay for extra details such as DWI patrol. Grants are good but to take a patrolman off of the road to do this job is ridiculous. Fill that other administration position and add another, let one of them right the grants. Matawan Police Department! The redheaded step children of Matawan!

Truth in Matawan, Sorry won't post any slanderous comments.

Truth in Matawan, Sorry you'll have to write in your own Blog when it comes to slander, liable, etc. If you have proof of any allegations, may I suggest you contact the newspapers or the Attorney General's office. Otherwise, all you are doing is just perpetuating stories.

Our Police Dept. has been working in an unhealthy, unsafe building. I'm sorry but the Democratic majority has done nothing to address the deplorable conditions. No one should work under unhealthy conditions. It is enough that Police put themselves in harm's way every day and accept that as part of the job. BUT, when their health is put in danger because the very people they protect don't stand up for them, then shame on us!

Matawan Advocate that was right on point! The problem is the residents of this community think that nothing will happen in this little town and the police department is not respected.

Me and my family can't wait to vote again!
I pray, things change,
it is very sad to know what I pay in taxes and watch that stupid street cleaner drive arround in circles...
I feel like going out and kicking that darn thing every time!

Outside Artist, Glad to hear you and your family are getting out to vote. Let's not damage municipal property. Appreciate your frustration, put a positive spin on it and get involved. We need more people to speak their minds and stand up when they believe they are being wronged. We need leaders not sheep. Thanks for your input.

It seems like the mayor is taking credit when it is not due. If the policemen are getting the grants on their own, and not the mayor, then it truly shows who cares about this town.

And the police get nothing but headaches from the majority of politicians. The get nothing! Maybe even more improvement of caring for Matawan would be to start hiring officers that are from at least the immediate area or that have plans to move into the immediate area. Not to say that these men and women don't care but will give new hires more of a reason to care!

Do you know why New York City requires municipal workers to live in the confines of the city? So they share in the tax burden rendered by their very services. Do we have that here in Matawan? Of course not! We don't know how many police officers, or teachers, or municipal workers live in Matawan, but we'd guess it's very, very few. And who can blame them?

But the fact remains, they all want what they want--and that means money--at any cost. And if they don't live in town (which is most of them), they're not footing the bill. So they can feel free to ask and ask and ask.

The only exception, of course, are our volunteer firemen, who not only live in the town, and do their jobs for no compensation, but they share in the tax burden of their expenses as well.

And the townspeople can like the IDEA of giving the police, or the teachers, or DPW workers all the tools and money they need to get their jobs done right. But then when their taxes are raised to give all the unionized special interests exactly what they're asking for, the same townspeople will complain! What is the answer?

We don't know.

matawan advocate said...

Truth in Matawan, First of all we live in Matawan, not NYC.

Secondly, NYC essential services are required to live in the NYC area including LI, Westchester, etc. Not to share the tax burden, but in case of emergencies, i.e. 9/11. Please do not mislead us.

We need constructive ideas. We try to make residents aware of what our government is doing in the hopes that people will wake up and partipate. You know....WE THE PEOPLE.

The sad part is our "VOLUNTEER" fire department is really not volunteer. A few years back they were given a pension for members that have so many hours of service. Just another waste of money. They do a great job but volunteer is volunteer. Why are they getting paid. The town now has to contribute to the system every year. What is that costing per firemen? Im sure that a very high percentage if not all are receiving the hours required every year.

As for the amount of money the police are making! They are actually ranked very low in the county. I dont think you can compare police with teachers, public works workers or any other department in town. They are the first to go to the aid of our residents or confront danger face to face. They must respond to everything and anything they are called too. It maybe as simple as a barking dog or as complicated and dangerous as an armed man barricaded in a house with a hostage (Which has happened several times in town and as recent as last week). They are our life line. They cannot say no when it comes to response to a call. They are and should be the highest paid and when the contracts end and they request their normal 4% raises or more, there should be no question! Look other places to make cuts. Not the safety of our community. Keep in mind when the Keansburg council didnt pay their police and cut alot out. That was when it really got bad there and several gangs and open air drug dealing began. POLICE is not a place to be CHEAP!
