What's Going On??????


According to an article in the Independent, Chief McGowan is retiring. We will verify the information and report back. Also there was a Resolution for a retirement agreement for what we believe is a Department of Public Works employee. More to follow........

Yes, Chief McGowan is retiring on June 30th after 25 years of dedicated service to Matawan. He is one of the best. Sorry to see him go...but wish him a wonderful retirement.

HAROLD A. CHARLSEN, 87, of MATAWAN, passed away Thursday, May 1. He was a resident of Matawan for 57 years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member and past chief of the Midway Hose Company, Matawan, member of the Fireman's State Relief Association, Bayshore Active Fire Chief's Association, N.J. State Chief Association, a member of Club 60, St. Clement's Seniors Club, and Nansen Lodge 410 Sons of Norway.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Karen "Eleanor" Charlsen; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine "Cookie" and Bill Charlsen; his son and daughter-in-law, Randolph and Marilyn Charlsen; his daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Raymond James; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Highway 79, Morganville. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by burial in Old Tennent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 180 Newman Springs Road, Red Bank, NJ 07701, and/or the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., P.O. Box 93, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
