April Fool's Day in Matawan

Pat Menna, Esq. was NOT confirmed by the Democratic majority of the Council at last night's Borough Council meeting. The Democrats now have 30 days to nominate and approve a Borough Attorney of their choosing. Concilpersons Bunyon, Cannon, Malley, Mendes and Mullaney voted against the appointment of Mr. Menna, Esq. as Borough Attorney. Councilwoman Clifton was the only vote to approve of Mr. Menna's appointment. There appears to be some controversy as Mr. Menna's quote was the lowest of all the applicants. His qualifications are not in question.

More to follow.......

Obviously money is not the issue in this town. Mullaney in control again!

Sad but true. There are some issues that will become apparent when the Democrats name their appointment for Borough Attorney. Interestingly enough the same attorney who represented the Monmouth County Democratic Party in their quest to get Mike Cannon on the ballot at the 11th hour was approved by the Council. Where is Mr. Mullaney and his Resolution on Fair Pay oops, Fair Play and Ethics he had mentioned at previous meetings?

When the Republicans take control again in November, I hope that Mayor Buccellato brings Mr. Menna back. Maybe that council will actually listen to him and we can get something done around here. Maybe just maybe a small Red Bank?

What do you have against people who speak up at meetings? If you are referring to Union St residents, why? Why don't you become more of a participant and less of a critic?

Thanks for your comments.

Main St. Manny, We agree with you and hope the Mayor gets the majority back and Mr. Menna is once more our Borough Attorney. Then we will see some progress. Let's hope the Democratic majority doesn't put us all in such a big financial hole with all their bonds. It is amazing they talk about bonds like we don't have to pay them back.

Thanks Manny, good to hear from you again.

Understood but someone needs to take control of this school district and put some money back into the towns.

Received a comment from an anonymous poster claiming Rob Clifton had bonded Matawan for years. Excuse me....but a Mayor does not vote on bonding...not now..not ever in Matawan. As to the rest of the comment, please rewrite as it doesn't make sense as written. Thank you.

Main St. Manny, Agree with you on the School Board. Perhaps the school system should be taken over by the County. For sure we can't count on Corzine for any financial assistance...the State just taxes us and gives nothing back.

You have to wonder if we all leave NJ who will be left to pay the ever increasing taxes..
