To Debate or Not to Debate

Per today's Asbury Park Press Mayor Aufseeser does not see a need for a debate. Councilman Buccellato is for a debate. The MA welcomes a debate as suggested by one of the Bloggers. Residents would be able to ask the tough questions that are often missed when campaigning. What do you residents think, would you like to see a debate?

I'd be for it, definitely, but you can't open it up to questions from the general residents--have you ever been to a council meeting? They're a disaster! People in general are so stupid, they ask the same question over and over, don't understand that they've been answered, sometimes don't even understand what they're asking, and the next person gets up and will ask the same (stupid) question again.

No, the proper format is to have borough residents submit potential questions to a neutral third party, say, a panel made up of the APP, Independent, and the Courier. They'll then choose the best questions, and perhaps throw in a few of their own. Then Sametta, Karen, and Alyssa can take turns acting as moderator and ask the Mayor and the Councilman questions. Limit the answers to 60 seconds, with 30 seconds allowed by the other person for a rebuttal.

I tell you one thing, if this were to happen, it would put Matawan on the map!

A debate would naturally have a moderator(s). How do voters make this happen?

Why was tonight's council meeting cancelled?

It seems like residents really want to see Aufseeser and Buccellato debate. I want to write a story on that. Are there any residents out there willing to comment on the record on why they think a debate is crucial for the upcoming special election on Jan. 15?

If so, please contact me at:

apply the pressure until they agree to debate. questions should be asked maybe from local newspaper people independent or observer, app and written approved questions from the people. is the mayor still against it ?

She is a terrible speaker. A debate would mean that she'd have to give her opinion on subjects I don't think she has the ability to even comment on. She's a nice lady, but she really isn't the mayor by any stretch of the imagination.

Of course the mayor is going to be against it. She wont have Mr. Menna and that Carr character to guide her through the debate like every council meeting. Why do you think the meetings have become so long. She can't answer anything without getting advise from the two that she sits between.

If these people want to be Mayor so bad they should pay for the election themselves instead of the taxpayers. Funny how they have plenty of money when it comes to election signs and adverts about who's doing what to who... I think it would be fair for them to both pic up the tab...how does everyone feel about that? How much do we have to pay? Does anyone know?

It is not the fault of the candidates that they each received an equal amount of votes. Buccellato has already paid for the recount.

If you don't like the system, change it.
